Let’s say first 3 words before I start with this blog post: «FUN IS FAST»
Anyway if something wasn’t fast for a looong looong time in summer it was me… I struggled a lot with orienteering and just couldn’t perform, not knowing why. A weird feeling for me because until now I always knew what the problem was and I could work on it. Testraces for World Cup in Italy were probably the worst of my life and I played with the thought to just call it a day and end this season early. I had no fun in the forest and I mentally already quitted long before the race.
If I just knew what was coming….
Before Euromeeting in Switzerland I just let it slide and didn’t do a very serious preparation for the weekend. I was just going there to enjoy… It was a big risk but it turned out to be the best decision. I was standing at that pre-start at the middle and I just had this feeling again: I knew today I can beat them all ;-). Well I didn’t… but almost, my race was good, not perfect but I fought and had fun again! I felt it was fast and I was finally happy again when I crossed the finishline! It was closely not enough for a podium (5th) but the fire was back. On Sunday then it was a really bad performance technically from me because I was just pushing like crazy, seems like the fire was maybe a bit too much back;-). Overall I can say the weekend was a big turning point in my season, well pretty late but better late than never.
Next weekend was then time for the last two national races. With all World Cup guys gone it wasn’t a big elite field but still with Jonas Soldini, Tino Polsini and Ueli Werren there were 3 strong guys competing. On Saturday I missed the win really closely but then on Sunday it was time for my first season victory in elite class!
So with a good feeling I went home from Flumserberge and kept on training for some running competitions. Harder Run in Interlaken and Bürenlauf in Büren were a good test for my late season shape. After a really tough trainingweek I couldn’t beat my own course record at Bürenlauf but I at least still took home the win.
With now remembering how to win it was time to leave for Denmark and the last trainingcamp of the season plus two World Ranking Events in the end of the week.
But that is a different story…;-)
